Sunflowers last 5 to 7 days in a vase with clean water and daily attention. They are among the more resilient cut flowers.
Trim the thick stems diagonally by 3 to 4 cm on arrival — sunflower stems are woody and need a generous cut to open good uptake.
Change the vase water every one to two days. Rinse the vase each time. Sunflower stems can cloud the water quickly.
Strip lower leaves before placing in the vase — submerged foliage on sunflowers rots faster than on most flowers.
Sunflowers naturally face light — rotate the vase occasionally if you want the blooms to stay centred toward the room.
