A hospital room or a recovering household is a place where very little changes from one hour to the next. The light is the same, the walls are the same, and the day has no shape to it. Flowers are one of the few things that do change — they open, they shift, they mark the passing of days in a room where days otherwise blur.

What Flowers to Send Someone Unwell

The right get-well arrangement is cheerful without being boisterous, and colour does most of that work.

Yellow, peach and coral carry warmth and energy, which is the point. These are the colours people describe as lifting a room, and a room that needs lifting is exactly where the flowers are going.

Mixed seasonal compositions give the most visual interest across several days. Where there is little to look at, variety earns its place.

Blush and soft pink are gentler, and suit someone genuinely unwell rather than comfortably recovering. Bright can feel like pressure when a person is very ill.

Orchids and plants are the longest-lasting option and the most overlooked. They outlast a hospital stay, travel home at discharge, and continue afterwards.

What to avoid, and why. All-white reads as sympathy rather than recovery, which is the wrong message at a bedside. Red reads as romantic. Heavily fragrant stems — lilies in particular — are pleasant in a living room and overwhelming in a small ward, and several Dubai hospitals restrict them outright.

Sending to a Hospital

This deserves more thought than most senders give it, because a well-intentioned arrangement can be turned away at the door.

Check the policy first. Many Dubai hospitals restrict flowers in intensive care and some wards entirely, and rules differ between facilities and even between floors. A phone call before ordering saves a wasted delivery.

Send a box, not a bouquet. A box arrives arranged with a concealed water source, needs no vase, and requires nothing from a patient or a nurse. It also travels home in one piece at discharge, which a loose bouquet does not.

Keep the scale modest. Hospital surfaces are small, shared, and often needed for equipment. A compact arrangement on a bedside table is a kindness; one that must be moved to the floor is not.

Mind the fragrance. In a small room with limited ventilation, scent that reads as luxurious elsewhere becomes overpowering, and for a patient with nausea it is actively unpleasant.

Timing. Deliver within visiting hours. Our concierge can hold an arrangement to a window, which matters where ward access is restricted.

Sending to a Home

Recovering at home allows more latitude. A hand-tied bouquet is warmer and more personal, and someone at home usually has both a vase and the time — for some people that small task is a welcome bit of normality. Larger arrangements work well in a living room where the recipient spends most of the day, and fragrance becomes a pleasure rather than a problem.

Consider where they will actually be. Someone confined to a bedroom benefits more from something on the bedside table than a statement piece in a hall they will not walk through for a fortnight.

What We Source

The stems matter more than the arrangement, and this occasion is where it shows most — a get-well arrangement is looked at for hours a day by someone with little else to look at, and it needs to last the week rather than fade by Wednesday.

Premium garden roses from Ecuador, selected by stage of bloom at the point of cutting. Hand-selected orchids. Hydrangeas in single soft tones, structured for longevity and generous in scale. Tulips, which continue growing after cutting and reposition themselves over the following days. Seasonal stems chosen for structural integrity rather than availability.

Nothing is pre-assembled and nothing is held in cold storage. Stems bought a week ago and assembled this morning will not last the week, however they look on arrival.

Bouquet, Box, Vase or Plant

A box is the default for hospitals and clinics: arranged, self-watering, finished on arrival.

A bouquet suits a home with a vase and someone well enough to enjoy arranging it.

A vase arrangement combines both — composed, ready, needing no vessel, which suits a shared family space.

Orchids and plants last weeks or years rather than days and need very little attention. For a long illness they are the most considerate choice on this page.

Scale and Price

Arrangements begin at AED 399. Medium sits at roughly AED 499 to 699, large at AED 999, extra-large at AED 1,399. Everything below five hundred is in the under AED 500 edit.

Restraint reads as thoughtfulness here. A compact or medium arrangement is right for almost every case. Large arrangements suit a home recovery or a shared family room, and rarely suit a hospital at all.

If you want to spend more, spend it on longevity rather than size — an orchid or a preserved infinity arrangement gives the recipient something that lasts beyond the illness, which a larger bunch of cut stems does not.

What to Write on the Card

Short and light. Recovery is tiring, and a long message asks for a response the recipient may not have the energy to give. Every order includes a complimentary handwritten-style note card.

Avoid dwelling on the illness. "Thinking of you" and "the office is quieter without you" both land better than detailed sympathy about the condition, which obliges the recipient to think about it again.

Do not ask questions on the card — it creates an obligation to reply at exactly the moment someone has least capacity for it.

Sign it clearly, including the surname if there is any ambiguity. Someone on medication may not place a first name alone.

For hospital delivery we recommend arranging a timed window through our WhatsApp concierge, since visiting hours and ward access vary and a driver cannot always leave an arrangement at a nursing station.

Give us the recipient's number — or, for a hospital, a family member who is present. Our driver calls on arrival, and a patient who cannot answer their phone is the most common reason a hospital delivery is delayed.

How Long They Last

At our sourcing standard, premium garden roses hold seven to ten days with correct care. Orchids run two to four weeks. Hydrangeas hold well across the week. Tulips continue opening and moving for several days after arrival.

For a box: top up the concealed reservoir every two days, pouring slowly at the edge rather than over the heads. Do not move the arrangement into another container.

For a bouquet: trim the stems at an angle, use clean water, strip leaves below the waterline, and refresh every two days.

For both: keep the arrangement out of direct sunlight and away from air-conditioning vents. In a hospital room the vent is usually directly above the bed, so the windowsill is almost always the better position.

For orchids: water sparingly, roughly once a week, and never let the roots sit in standing water. They are harder to kill than most people expect, which is part of their appeal here.
