Virgo

Chapter One
Every florist in this city treats grain as filler. We built the collection out of it.
Three stems of wheat pushed into a bouquet to add a rustic note, priced at nothing, thought about for nothing — that is what dried grain is for, everywhere else. Virgo has carried the bound sheaf in every depiction of her for two thousand years, and it deserves better than that.
So the sixth edition inverts it completely. Here the grain is the architecture and the blooms are the detail. The cheapest material in the cooler becomes the most expensive object in the room, because it is the only one treated with total seriousness.
The Idea
Two directions, one sign
Virgo runs in two techniques at once, released together. The Sheaf is the woven reading — bound, textural, meant to be handled, with grain assembled first and blooms placed into the structure. Spica is the graphic one — a bone ground, exactly one block of colour, and deliberate empty space.
Same symbol, same signature stem, opposite method. Every piece in both carries one ash-white point at its highest position: Spica, the star named for the ear of wheat in the Maiden's hand.
Chapter Two
One crop, at every stage of its life
Green in the field, gold at cut, bronze after drying — plus the pale point of the star and the silver of Mercury, Virgo's ruling planet. Because the tones are stages of one material rather than separate colours, they never read as a mixed arrangement.
The Rules
Grain owns the top
The structure is bound before a single bloom is introduced — build it the other way round and you have a bouquet with wheat in it, which is a different and much worse product. One visible binding point at the lower third. Nothing blooming is ever the highest element.
Everything is matte except one lacquered element per piece: an anthurium, an orchid floret, a calla. One. That single point of shine is what makes the dryness look intentional rather than accidental.
Airy at the top, solid at the bottom. An arrangement that is light at the base looks unfinished from across a room.

The Standing Sheaf
The room-scale piece, and the one with no competitor in this market at any price. Bleached and green wheat, cut clean, bound tight, and lit properly.
Spica
Named for the star in the Maiden's hand. The ash-white point sits at the highest position, with the grain closed around it.
Grain and Glass
Grain against clear glass, so the binding and the stems are part of what you are looking at rather than something hidden in a vase.
Viride
The green wheat block — unripened grain, grey-green and dusty, never fresh or leafy. The signature tone of the collection and the one nobody else is using.
The Soil
The earth block. Carthamus, terracotta achillea and bronze amaranthus, held to a single register with nothing else allowed in.
Argentum · Mercury
Lunaria, brunia and dusty miller against bone. Silver for Mercury, Virgo's ruling planet, and the quietest piece of the six.
Chapter Three
The season and the sign agree
Late August and September are the two months when fresh stock behaves worst in this city. Virgo is engineered around that: most of its material is dried or heat-stable, holds indefinitely, and does not care what the temperature is between our door and yours.
It does not need water
The grain, grasses and seed heads are dried. No vase, no water, no daily refresh — the piece is finished the moment it arrives and stays that way.
Keep it out of the draught
Air conditioning moves dried material more than fresh. Away from a vent, the silhouette holds exactly as it was bound.
It will outlast the sign
The fresh elements are the short-lived part. What remains is built to sit in a room for months rather than days, which is the point of composing it this way.
